Interjuv med Cherie Currie om The Runaways

Här kommer en interjuv med den riktiga Cherie Currie som var en medlem i The Runaways!

cherie-currie-runaways
Cherie Currie på scen 1976

Cherie Currie was 15 when she started scandalising middle America. That was when she auditioned to become the lead singer of all-female teenage rock band the Runaways, a group that would send shockwaves through the suburbs with their attitude-fuelled performances and sexually explicit lyrics.

Their first single, "Cherry Bomb", talked unapologetically about "wild girls" and "street boys" and several radio stations refused to give it airtime. Currie would routinely appear on stage wearing stockings, suspenders and a tight-fitting basque so that even the reliably liberal Village Voice was moved to denounce the girls as "bimbos".

The year was 1976. Jimmy Carter was about to be elected president. It seemed America was not yet ready for five adolescent females who played their own instruments and sang openly about sex. But Currie didn't care. "We truly believed girls could play rock'n'roll," she says now from her home in Los Angeles. "We knew we were going into unknown territory. We had to fight on a daily basis, especially with a lot of male bands who didn't take us seriously." She gives a long, throaty laugh. "I look back 30 years and I still can't believe it."

Now, the story of the band is to be immortalised in a film, The Runaways, which premieres at this year's Sundance film festival and which is partially based on Currie's brutally honest memoir, Neon Angel. Kristen Stewart, the star of the popular Twilight franchise, is cast as the feisty guitarist Joan Jett while Currie is played by Dakota Fanning. "Seeing [her] playing me is so off-the-map it's incredible," says Currie, who was a frequent visitor to the set. "I can't even digest it. She's so together, which I was not at that age… She came to my house one afternoon and we sang back and forth so that she could get the inflections, and she nailed it."

Stewart learned to mimic Joan Jett's mannerisms with such devastating effect that Currie could barely tell the difference. "I got a phone call one day and there was this voice going 'Hey Cherie', and I thought it was Joan, I said: 'Oh my god, are you in town?'" In reality it was Stewart playing a practical joke.

The filming process has brought back vivid memories, both of the band's spectacular success and the subsequent fall-out. For a four-year period from 1975 the Runaways blazed a trail for hardcore female rock bands at a time when the most popular music in America was embodied by the soft melodies of Carole King and Fleetwood Mac.

The Runaways went on to tour internationally, performing to packed-out venues and revolutionising the male-dominated rock world with riotous nonchalance. But Currie walked out in 1977, and two years later the band buckled under the weight of infighting and jealousy. "We were all growing up, trying to deal with the transition into young womanhood," she says. "At the same time there was a whole lot of craziness going on."

The hard-partying lifestyle took an inevitable toll: Currie started popping Quaaludes and then graduated to cocaine. She was an addict before she was 18. "Our management, our booking agent – they were all feeding us drugs. The thing was, back in the 70s, if you didn't do drugs there was something wrong with you."

Where were her parents? "They had recently divorced," says Currie, who was raised in the small town of Encino in the San Fernando valley. "My mother remarried and moved to Indonesia. How could they say no? They had the record company ringing them up… they wanted us to have the dream. It all happened so fast."

The Runaways were managed by Kim Fowley, an eccentric Svengali figure who was introduced to the 16-year-old Joan Larkin (she later switched surnames to Jett) at an Alice Cooper aftershow party. Jett subsequently met Currie and her twin sister, Marie. The latter was approached first and asked if she wanted to be in a band. She declined. But Cherie said yes and her fate was sealed.

Was it a case of too much, too young? "That's a very hard question to answer because we were just thrown into this cyclone and did what we were told to do," Currie replies. "We literally just had to hold on to our seats and make it from point A to point B on a daily basis."

The film portrays Fowley as a malign influence who deliberately marketed them as "jailbait rock". He allegedly used to throw jars of peanut butter at the girls during rehearsals to prepare them for the rough audiences they would face. In the past Currie has called him "a beast [who] should not be allowed near young girls". "It was the abuse from Kim Fowley and our roadies that was so hard to take," says Currie now. "We got such abuse on a daily basis. They were trying to harden us to the reality of the rock'n'roll world but how could we possibly know this wasn't the way it was supposed to be?"

Later they discovered that their management had also been ripping them off. "We were not getting any money," recalls Currie, a note of incredulity creeping into her voice. "We were doing sold-out concerts and getting $20!"

Drained and exhausted from the constant travel and drug use, the increasingly flaky Currie suddenly walked out on the band. "There was so much conflict over the attention paid to me as the lead singer," she says. "Joan was very upset and hurt but I really thought these girls wanted me out. It was a lack of communication." Does she regret it? "Absolutely."

She went on to record two solo albums and had some minor success as an actress, starring alongside Jodie Foster in Foxes and even appearing in the classic spoof "rockumentary" This Is Spinal Tap. She married the actor Robert Hays in the 1990s and the couple, now divorced, have an 18-year-old son. Today, aged 50, she spends much of her time making "chainsaw art" wood carvings. Tellingly, Currie says what she loves about her unusual hobby is the fact that "I'm the boss – it's just me and the chainsaw. I'm in control. And it's really dangerous".

Still, there is no doubt that she misses the excitement of the Runaways' heyday. "We've always wanted to do a reunion," she admits. Looking back, would she do everything the same again? "Absolutely. I wouldn't change a thing except I wish we could have got back together. That's my only regret… Being in the Runaways, we were trailblazers, we changed a lot of people's perspectives on what they could or could not do as females."

Her son Jake, also a musician, turns 19 next month. He will then be four years older than his mother was when she started out in the band. Would Currie be happy to see him doing what she was at the same age? "I couldn't even conceive of allowing my son to do the things that I did," she says, her voice suddenly serious. Luckily Jake does not need to live out his mother's adolescent rock'n'roll rebellion: he can watch the film instead.

Charlie Bewley om Eclispe: It´s going to be very Dark and Vicious

NEW Moon star Charlie Bewley says the third film in the Twilight Saga, Eclipse, is going to be very dark.

Charlie Bewley, who plays Volturi vampire Demetri in Twilight Saga: New Moon and Eclipse, says the next installment is set to be very different than the first two films

Speaking exclusively to OK.co.uk, Charlie revealed that director David Slade is going to add a nasty tone to the vampire love story.

He told us: “David is a master of mood. Eclipse has this different mood about it, it’s dark and vicious. You get to see the brutal nature of vampires and what they are really capable of, which is something we haven’t really seen in the first two movies.”

And the star told us David works very differently to New Moon director Chris Weitz.

He said: “They are very different directors. David understands what each scene needs [to create the dark mood] – absolute fine tuning. He might stop the scene halfway through and just tweak something before saying: ‘Go back, say that word again and I want you to put the emphasis on that’.

“It’s very controlled and when I was on set I found myself not being able to be as theatrically elaborate as I was with Chris’ film. But that’s exactly why David has been brought on board - to make this a more real film. Eclipse is going to be more real.”

But Charlie says Chris was happy to let the stars develop the characters themselves while filming New Moon.

He added: “Chris is someone who is massively organised in his work and he is meticulous in his preparation towards something, purely because the stuff he does is on such a grand scale and it was with New Moon.

“He scouted out Montepulciano [the village in Tuscany used for the clock tower scene in New Moon], they visited every single village in Italy to find out the best place to shoot this thing and they got it just right.

“When it gets to set he knows he has done the hard work, really, he just needs to trust in everyone he has put around him and just very finely manipulate people.”

David recently revealed vampire heartthrob Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson, will have a very strong 'presence' in Eclipse.

He told his Twitter followers: "Wolf reviews today, looking better & better. The Eclipse story and the way we approached the film calls for a much more realistic approach....As we cut. Edward seems to be a really strong presence, the intensity of the love story & rivalry between Jacob is in the driving seat.

"Jacob & Bella are matching with intensity, & it's all even with the action sequences. Right now we are in a great state of balance."

Twilight Saga: Eclipse is released in cinemas in the UK on July 9th, 2010.

Nikki pratar om Rosalie och K-11

Nikki gjorde nyligen en interjuv med Venice Magazine dör hon pratade om Rosalie och hennes nya film K-11 som hon spelar in tsm med Kristen Stewart!;)

Venice: Talk about some of the opportunities that have opened up for you in the past year. Or have you even had time to enjoy them, you’ve been so busy.

Nikki Reed: It might take a couple of years before I can properly reflect on this whole thing. It’s been really crazy and everything is moving so fast that it’s hard to see it from an outside perspective...
I’m not a household name, I don’t think that I am, but if you mention the name Twilight now there’s an instant connection between you and whoever the person is in the world because they know what it is. And so it’s given me an opportunity to meet really cool actors that I idolize. You can say you’re in Twilight and they sort of get that maybe you get their insane world for half a second. And the cool thing is a lot of these actors have kids that love Twilight much more than they love their parents’ work because their parents are just their parents. But some really famous woman sent a letter to Rob saying, “Hey, will you sign something for my children? I’ve sent you some script covers to sign.” It’s just really incredible...

And it’s also weird to be so focused on what you look like physically. I’ve never worked on a film where I’m as concerned with things that seem so superficial. But how we look is really important, especially when you’re playing these characters that people really feel a connection with. They feel like they know them and not just because they’ve seen them on the big screen, but before that. So you want to make sure you look right and it’s really frustrating because sometimes it feels like it’s out of your control. And it’s never gonna be perfect and the word perfect seems to me like a very common word that’s used when describing us and that throws you off as well. It’s like, “What is perfect?” I don’t know.

Do you feel like there’s a similarity to what you went through with Thirteen?

There is a similarity, there is a connection, there totally is. That was like a cult phenomenon, obviously on a much smaller scale, but that was still something that made people want to know the person, want to connect with the person, want to ask the person questions. There were no boundaries with that movie, just like I feel there are no boundaries with this.

What can you tell us about K-11?

I just don’t know what’s happening with it, but Jules Stewart, Kristen [Stewart]’s mom is directing. She wrote it as well, with a writing partner. Kristen and I both love the project; we hope it gets made, obviously. But other than that I don’t know what else to say ’cause we don’t have a start date and we’re kind of all wrapped up in this, she and I. So at least I know when my schedule is free, maybe hers will be free. We sort of know where the other one’s at. But we want to make it. It’s a great project and it’s an opportunity for me to play something that couldn’t be farther away from my situation, and people will no longer have the opportunity to say she’s playing herself. Even though I couldn’t have lived on my own, paid rent, tried to finish high school, without even having a driver’s license, I couldn’t have done all those things if I was this crazy insane lunatic, which is the character I keep playing. Except in Twilight, which is also another great reason I’m happy to be a part of this, because of the mass exposure and the difference in what I’m playing. K-11 I get to play a role so different than myself and I always play roles different than myself. In fact, Rosalie is the closest thing I’ve ever played to myself. It depends on how you look at her, but in terms of how protective she is over her family, and how loving she is, and not in a condescending way, in a mature, wise way, how she can look at the big picture and see what’s best for her and her family. And I feel like that’s the role I’ve sort of always played.

Interjuv med Bryce Dallas Howard

Här kommer en interjuv med Bryce!

Is your Gwen Stacy character going to have a big role in "Spider-Man 4"?

I don’t know. It was really made clear to me when we did "Spider-Man 3" that it was entirely possible that a character could come back or a character could not. This could be just a specific plot to that film, because there are so many stories in the comic-book series, if you want to pack in as much as possible. It’s up to ["Spider-Man" director] Sam [Raimi] and the writers and the people who have done such an amazing job protecting that franchise and choosing the best storylines for the audiences. I’m a fan first. I had an incredible time working with them, but what I want more than anything is just for that franchise to continue to kick butt and to really appease the really, really, loyal fans, including myself.

Have you been approached to do "Spider-Man 4"?

No. I haven’t. There’s no disappointment because it’s exciting … what’s happening to that franchise. I’m just happy that there’s going to be two more ["Spider-Man" movies]. During the third ["Spider-Man" movie], there was a question. And after it came out, it was pretty clear that people were really supportive of the franchise. I’m really stoked that it’s continuing on.

McG says that he wants to direct more "Terminator" movies. If he does, would you be on board for that?

Oh, yeah! I haven’t signed anything that would obligate them to me or me to them or anything like that, because that film ["Terminator Salvation"] was made with a lot of humility. We’ll do this one, the fact that we can, and if people ask for more, then they ask for more. But it’s an incredible group. We are all fiercely committed to the story. It’s "Terminator," for Christ’s sake. If it comes about, and if I should be so lucky that they invite me back, I would be loathe to walk away from that.

Will you play Victoria in "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn"?

I don’t want to give anything away, but "Victoria has a life span," is what I’ll say. [She laughs.] That’s all I can say about that.

Can you talk about your experience in joining the "Twilight" franchise?

I was really struck by what an incredible group of young people are in that franchise. Their friendships are so genuine, and they really ground each other. And there is a lot going on around them. There’s a lot of attention and scrutiny, but I’m truly moved by how solid they’ve remained in their values and belief systems and their caring of one another throughout all of that. You hope for that in a franchise.

Part of the reason to come back together is to tell a story but also to come back together because everyone genuinely enjoys working with one another. And it was a really, really positive experience for that reason — other than set aside the fact that I’ve read the ["Twilight"] books and loved the books from the very beginning and these characters are extraordinary. It’s such an absorbing story that I just felt very lucky, given the unfortunate circumstances surrounding it, that I was just invited in. I hope that "Eclipse" continues this trend of being really reverent of what ["Twilight" book series author] Stephenie [Meyer] created with the books.

What advice would you have for an actor who is doing a role that was previously played by someone else? A lot of people thought you handled yourself well in the controversy over your "Eclipse" casting.

We’ll see. The jury is still out, because Rachelle [Lefevre] really created an incredible character and is exquisite. I fell like the uproar that occurred was really appropriate, because part of the joy of seeing a franchise, it’s almost like a television series. You’ve seen the actors grow with the franchise. And [Lefevre’s] unavailability [to do "Eclipse"] was really, really, really unfortunate. Advice? Gosh. Just to do your best and be über-respectful. She won that role for a reason. I hope to honor everything that she created.

MTV interjuvar Robert

With "New Moon" still riding high at the box office and poised to become one of the highest-grossing films of the year — if not all time — the world can't seem to get enough of Robert Pattinson. It's a good thing, then, that our pals over at MTV Radio recently spoke with the "Twilight" heartthrob.

Last week, we brought you RPattz's thoughts on romances, both onscreen and off. Now, as those Thanksgiving leftovers wear thin, we're happy to dish out part two of that interview, featuring some yummy tidbits on Rob's 90-year-old fans, jealousy over Taylor's bod, and his New Year's resolution to be less self-deprecating.

MTV: Taylor Lautner's transformation between the movies is now the stuff of legend. Tell us about the first time you saw him and what you thought.

Robert Pattinson: I didn't see Taylor until just a little bit before we started shooting ["New Moon"]. When he came back, I had the same reaction as everybody else. I was like, "Jeez, now I have to go to the gym!" But yeah, it was strange. This one was weird, because I hardly did any scenes with Taylor. We did the scenes at the beginning and scenes at the end [together], and he had his entire story line develop without me being around, which is interesting, because I had no idea where his performance was going. So it wasn't really a competition or anything; it was all independent. Whereas in "Eclipse," we're doing scenes together all the time with Bella.

MTV: Who is your favorite movie vampire of all time?

Pattinson: Wow, I don't really know. I always think of the wrong people. I always think Christian Slater in "Interview With a Vampire," but he's not the vampire — he's the interviewer! I really like Wesley Snipes [in the "Blade" movies]. I think Wesley Snipes is great.

MTV: Out of all the "Twilight" stars, you seem to do the fewest interviews. Why is that?

Pattinson: I think it's such a risky thing doing interviews. I try to limit the amount of interviews I do, because no one is that interesting, especially when you're not really saying anything. I don't particularly want to be some kind of character in society or whatever. So I guess the only thing you can do is do jobs and see if people respond to that.

MTV: You tease yourself as "not saying anything," and a lot of people see you as being self-deprecating. Are you?

Pattinson: I'm always told that I don't really know who I am, so hopefully I won't compartmentalize myself because of that. I am just completely ignorant of [how others perceive me]. I've never really struggled with anything up until recently. I've got to stop being so self-depreciating, because people are starting to believe it. They're like, "Yeah, that guy is an idiot." So I've tried to stop doing that.

MTV: What was the last fan interaction that really made you laugh?

Pattinson: I always find it funny when older people come up. There was a woman who came up to me the other day who must have been in her 90s! And she said all this stuff; it's very unusual. And they say exactly the same things as 12-year-old girls! That is kind of bizarre.

Ashley Greene pratar vampyr sex

Nyligen så gjorde Ash en interjuv där hon pratade om vampyr sex och hur hon fick sin roll som Alice.

She’s one of the hottest young actresses in Hollywood, and Ashley Greene recently confessed that she’d love to hook up with a real-life vampire.

The “Twilight” babe explained, “Take the best sex you’ve ever had in your life, multiply it by 100 and that’s vampire sex.”

In addition, Miss Greene (who plays Alice Cullen) confessed that she was obsessed with getting her role in the uber-hit “Twilight Saga” films.

“Oh, my God, I wanted this part so badly! I worked my butt off for it because I absolutely love Alice, my character.  She’s sweet, sexy, and a killer! So when they told me I got it, I tried to play it all cool, you know, for about a minute.  Suddenly the Twilight blogs started picking it up, and then fans were there taking photos, and I’m on the news, and I was like, ‘What?’ And then I got really nervous.”
